To make the the stupendous, hard-swinging music of Pete Christlieb, John Allred, and the UA Studio Jazz Ensemble available to the largest possible audience we have decided to make Big Band Extravaganza a general-admission concert. Food-lovers need not despair. The AZuL restaurant at The Westin La Paloma is ready to serve you a fabulous pre-concert meal in the glow of an incomparable Tucson sunset. DON’T MISS IT!
Pete Christlieb is probably one the world’s most famous anonymous tenor saxophonists. For years, he played jazz tenor in Doc Severinsen & the Tonight Show Band. His big, beefy sound and aggressive solos were heard mostly in brief snippets, unfortunately denying the American public a chance to hear a very fine saxophonist. John Allred is a brilliant trombone player who appears in jazz clubs, festivals and concerts worldwide. Allred is a regular with the band of Harry Connick Jr., and is featured soloist with the Woody Herman Orchestra. Pete and John will be joined by the UA Studio Jazz Ensemble directed by Jeff Haskell and Moisés Paiewonsky, and coming off of a highly successful 18 city tour of China this summer.
